Health Services

British Columbia Ambulance Service (BCAS) is a provincially operated emergency service that provides emergency care and transportation to the communities of Wells, Barkerville and the Bowron Lakes areas.

The BCAS station is located on the main highway in Wells. It is operated by parttime attendants, who respond to calls 24 hours a day. The nearest hospital to Wells is 95 km.( one hour) east, in Quesnel. The Wells station is fully supplied with emergency equipment and an ambulance.  The emergency calls are dispatched from a communications center out of central B.C. via the 911 service.

Additional ambulances respond from Quesnel when needed as well as air-evac teams as required in the more isolated areas and situations.  For more information on the BCAS, visit their site on the web at http://admin.moh.hnet.bc.ca
